The laid-back and inviting atmosphere of pubs is one of the most celebrated aspects of Bermuda's English heritage. Historic tradition comes together with the island's renowned hospitality to create warm establishments with traditional hearty pub-style food, where tourists can congregate with locals to create ultimate party places.

Visitors will step back in time at the Hog Penny. The restaurant and pub is Hamilton's oldest licensed establishment; its name was inspired by the former 1600s Bermudian coinage called Hog Money. With décor cobbled together from English bits and pieces from the '50s such as woods, mirrors and old sheep-shearing tools, the venue was the original inspiration for the Cheers pub in Boston and has won numerous "Best of Bermuda" awards.

"The establishment reflects the growth of Bermuda as an international capital," says Philip Barnett, the president. "It continues to serve generations of families and die-hard fans, while meals are planted in contemporary gastro-pub cuisine."

Another accurate rendition of the traditional English pub is Frog & Onion, located inside the 18th-century Cooperage Building at Dockyard. Visitors can feast on casual meals and elegant dinners, and the atmosphere is enhanced with an on-premises microbrewery and a game room for children.

The North Rock Brewing Company is located 10 minutes east of Hamilton, in Smith's Parish, and it serves up Bermuda's finest ales and stouts seven days a week to accompany its award-winning menu of local and international dishes. The casual mahogany-trimmed pub is set in an upscale coastal-themed dining room.

With a quaint decoration, Bermuda's oldest pub, Swizzle Inn in Baileys Bay, encourages "swizzlers" to post their cards and messages on its graffiti-covered walls. The venue is an inviting setting to sip on Rum Swizzle — Bermuda's deliciously potent national drink — then go on to the patio or indoors to enjoy the award-winning Swizzle Burger or Baileys Bay Fish sandwich, conch fritters or onion rings.

The Bermuda Bistro @ THE BEACH offers a fun and upbeat pub vibe. Patrons can rock until 3 a.m. nightly at the beach bar, with varied live entertainment and television programming featuring English footy and the NFL Ticket.

Blessed by the scenic tranquillity of Mangrove Bay, Somerset Country Squire is the place to go for picturesque lunches at reasonable prices. On a sun-drenched terrace lined by palm trees, the restaurant offers superb dining à la carte and a sports bar with excellent satellite coverage and lots of local character.

The White Horse Pub & Restaurant in St. George's is well-known for its interior reflecting the seafaring way of Bermuda with mounted fish, boat paraphernalia and ancient maps on the bar tables. The pub features live entertainment and music day and night at the outdoor Native Islander Bar, and houses the LIGHT nightclub, where Bermuda's top DJs spin world music to dance the night away, and an indoor and outdoor bar.
