Cambridge Beaches
Cambridge Beaches harkens back to yesteryear, when all-inclusive cottage colonies were the rave of Bermuda's tourism industry. Today, the 25-acre spread with five private beaches overlooking Mangrove Bay, is an exclusive, romantic hideaway resort, is just as popular as when it first opened its doors. Comprising 94 cottage style rooms and suites (18 deluxe rooms and suites built in 2001) it is perfect for total relaxation. The 45-minute drive from the airport makes it the kind of resort where once you arrive - you stay put. And there are enough amenities to encourage this, with tennis, croquet, a spa, a European Wellness Centre offering over 100 pampering treatments and inter-nationally acclaimed cuisine. There's live nightly entertainment (in season) and a complimentary ferry service to Hamilton (a 30-minute ride). Cambridge offers a variety of sporting activities including sail/motor boats, deep-sea fishing, tennis, windsurfing and snorkeling. In terms of practicality and all the available creature comforts no further inducement is needed for spending an entire holiday at Cambridge Beaches. Stop by the Port 'o' Call bar and find the Repeat Guest Board. Guests can sip rum punches while perusing over the names of previous guests at the hotel dating back to the 1940s.
The Clearview Suites
A mere ten-minute drive from the airport and you could be ensconced in a suite with breathtaking views of the azure waters of the North Shore in Hamilton Parish. The Clearview Suites and villas is located in secluded grounds, the rooms are spacious and unpretentious, and some feature the art works of a well-known local artist, Otto Trott, who just happens to be the son-in-law of the owner. As the property is family-owned the prolific Bermudian artist has a gallery and studio on the premises, operated by his charming wife, Carol Lee. There's tennis, two swimming pools and the adjacent Landfall Restaurant is popular for Sunday Brunch, wedding and family parties. The menu features generous portions of local cuisine in a relaxed setting. An historic listed building, it was owned by an artist and architect named Kirkpatrick, whose architectural touches are still evident. There's a bus every 15 minutes that will get you into Hamilton and back-in time to enjoy the ambience of this charming property.
Fourways Inn
Once a private home dating back to 1776, Fourways Inn actually had four entrances to the property, which was built as a private home. Over the years it operated mainly as a restaurant with a few guest rooms that made it an Inn. Eventually new accommodations were added and it now boasts five luxury cottages, six suites and five deluxe rooms nestled in beautifully landscaped grounds in Paget. The adjacent Fourways Inn Restaurant became known as a gourmet dining spot which catered to a number of world leaders, including President George Herbert Walker Bush, whose table in the corner has a plaque commemorating his visit. Former Secretary of State Colin Powell was guest of honor at a power luncheon for Bermuda's movers and shakers. Dining is by candlelight and a pianist plays for dinner every night. The hotel side of Fourways Inn is very low key and guests are free to come and go without the usual traffic found in a typical hotel lobby. A garden entrance leads to the swimming pool and cottages, which have kitchenettes, private patios, cable TV, telephone, DSL lines and all the comforts and privacy imaginable. A dine around plan to eight other restaurants is available and bus and ferry travel to Hamilton is nearby.
Horizons & Cottages
Imagine rising from a restful night to the sounds of the ocean and the delicious aroma of breakfast being cooked on your cottage patio. No, you are not dreaming. Just a typical day in paradise at Horizons & Cottages in Paget, a Relais & Chateaux property that has a reputation for pampering guests. They employ the most charming of Bermudian chambermaids, some of whom who seem to take a delight in regaling guests with local folklore and information on where to go and what to do as they prepare breakfast. By the time you emerge from the shower your room is in such pristine condition you'll probably wonder how you can replicate this sybaritic lifestyle back home.
The plantation estate with cottage across some 26 acres is like an oasis just off the busy South Shore Road. The public and guests rooms are exquisitely furnished with a smattering of antique pieces. You may have breakfast and dinner in the dining room, or on the spacious Ocean Terrace. Fridays are set aside for a barbeque, with local entertainment and lots to eat. There's a pool, an English pub with a roaring fire during the cooler moths. Or you can partake of tennis, a 9-hole golf course, 18-hole putting green and a freshwater pool, fitness centre -- It's all very posh. If you must leave the property meander over to the Coral Beach & Tennis Club, a sister property (also at Waterloo House, another sister property) and experience their dine around program.
Munro Beach Cottages
Munro closed its doors in July of 2007.
Waterloo House
You could easily miss another luxury hotel on the edge of Hamilton Harbour, which is identified only by a brass name plate. An attractively decorated lounge, complete with fireplace and an antique grandfather clock, is an ideal oasis for before and after dinner drinks. Ideally situated, Waterloo House is near the ferry stop and has the use facilities at sister properties, fitness centre, beauty spa, beach and golf, plus dine-around privileges.
Apartments
Dawkins Manor
At first blush Dawkins Manor is not designed to fill guests with unbridled enthusiasm. But if you are looking for a budget vacation with access to Hamilton and the beaches, then you can't go wrong. The property is made up of housekeeping apartments located in a quiet residential area a short bus ride from the main streets in Hamilton. At least two beaches are within walking distance. Within five minutes walking distance is a fully stocked supermarket, allowing guests to buy sufficient provisions to prepare meals in their apartments.
Oxford House
Classified as an "Inn", Oxford House is one of the last of the typical B&B establishments so popular in England. With a maximum of 12 rooms (two with bath, the others have showers), it is popular for budget or business travel, as they offer a good breakfast, but other meals can be taken in any one of the many fine restaurants located less than two blocks from the front door. The main shops of Hamilton and bus and ferry service two blocks away. Oxford House's rooms are air-conditioned with TV, telephone and radio. Oxford House is not suited for young children, as there is little in the way of recreational areas or games rooms. But the staff offer the kind of personal service that allowed the hotel to win the Government's Cedar Tree Merit Award as the top guest house for eight consecutive years.
The Wharf Executive Suites
Adjacent to what was once the old Inverurie Hotel on Harbour Road in Paget, the Wharf Executive Suites is a modern, boutique-style hotel, ideal for business travelers and longer stays. Quiet it is, with five guest rooms, complete with cable TV, radio, air-conditioning, microwave oven and fridge. A brisk walk will get you into Hamilton in 15 minutes and frequent bus service to all parts of the island is readily available.
Hotels
Grape Bay Beach Hotel

The hotel comprises a row of pink buildings that hug the South Shore coast, affording all guests in the tastefully appointed rooms, suites and cottages stunning views of the ocean and private beach. A definite jaw-dropper is the freshwater "infinity pool" high on a cliff, giving the impression from the sun deck of a sheer drop into the ocean. Dining is in the main clubhouse, or al fresco dining is available in the Ocean Terrace Grill, or even more dramatic is "Coconuts", the beach bar and restaurant where dinner is served with giant rocky cliffs as a backdrop. It's a fair distance from Hamilton (30 minutes), so there's local entertainment in season on a nightly basis. Two all-weather tennis courts are available, together with a fitness centre, snorkeling and kayaking.
Rosedon Hotel
A stone's throw from the Princess is the charming Rosedon Hotel, a little gem with Colonial rooms, exquisite gardens encasing a welcoming temperature-controlled swimming pool. Originally a private mansion now owned by the Kitson family. The hotel has a wide verandah that is not only an impressive entrance, but ideal for al fresco breakfast, afternoon tea and the weekly Rum Swizzle parties, usually hosted by its gracious manager, Muriel Richardson. The garden rooms are spacious and if you are lucky you might be able to secure one of the four Royal Rooms, which offer flat screen television, DVD, traditional floors and draperies, pull-out couches and Jacuzzis. There is afternoon tea and an "Honor Bar", where guests may help themselves to drinks and snacks and simply sign their name and room number. Rosedon also offers complimentary taxi service to the beach with one of the friendly cabbies who ply their trade from the hotel and can whisk you to the airport at a moment's notice. A new feature is the "larder," adjacent to the kitchen, where guests who feel peckish can make a sandwich, brew coffee or use the microwave if the kitchen is closed. This is ideal for late arrivals.
A special feature not to be missed is Rosedon's all-Bermudian staff, who treat guests as family. No one minds if you pop into the busy kitchen and say hello to Clarabelle and Bo, two long-serving staffers who have welcomed many a repeat guest. Rosedon is also popular with business travelers.
Royal Palms Hotel & Restaurant
A short walk from Hamilton is another delightful hotel, the 32-room Royal Palms. This award-winning, family-owned property is a fine example of Bermudian architecture, painted a terra cotta hue with white traditional Bermuda shutters that offer privacy while keeping the rooms cool. There are spacious and tranquil gardens, richly decorated guestrooms, suites and cottages. A main feature is Ascots Restaurant, with a lounge and bar that attracts many locals who demand fine dining in this well- appointed popular spot with a fully stocked wine cellar that doubles as part of the décor. The newly renovated meeting area just off the restaurant is ideal for small to medium sized group festivities or wedding receptions. For five consecutive years Royal Palms won the Department of Tourism's Longtail Merit Awards for achieving the highest standard of accommodation, health and safety. It has an enviable record of repeat guests. Hamilton is not far away, but it is advisable to take a taxi, as there are no sidewalks along the winding road leading from the hotel to nearby Hamilton, a point to consider since Bermudians drive on the left side of the road.
Resorts

The City of Hamilton in within ten minutes by bus or taxi. The historic Town of St. George is an equal distance by bus, or taxi.
Elbow Beach Hotel
The Elbow Beach Hotel dates back to that grand era of luxury travel, when American visitors arrived in Bermuda by steamships and spent months at the seaside resort to escape the harsh winters in the United States. Trunks were off-loaded and carried to the hotel by horse-drawn carts and guests meandered to their winter retreat in fringe-topped carriages. The now glistening yellow structure that overlooks a magnificent beach once catered almost exclusively to the rich and famous and has seen many changes since those horse and carriage days. Situated on 50 lush acres of botanical gardens, there are rooms and suites in the main hotel and lanais and suites on the grounds. A host of amenities are laid on for today's guests such as a state- of- the-art fitness centre, a new luxury spa, a shopping arcade in the main hotel, 24-hour room service, free internet access and a fully operational business centre. Dining consists of contemporary Bermudian cuisine in the Seahorse Grill, their signature restaurant; poolside lunch, bar service and seasonal buffets. Guests may dine on the beach at Mickey's Beach Bar, or sample gourmet Mediterranean fare at Lido and al fresco dining on the hotel's private beach. The concierge will readily arrange tennis, sightseeing, horseback riding and other sports. A short bus ride (or taxi) will take you into Hamilton for shopping. Also in walking distance is the Bermuda Railway Trail where one can walk for miles through shaded, traffic-free lanes.
Fairmont Southampton
If size matters and you lean towards expansive (perhaps expensive, too) accommodations, the Fairmont Southampton Hotel would be at the top of the heap - literally. It stands on one of the highest points in Bermuda, near the Gibb's Hill Lighthouse, surrounded by gardens and boasts an 18-hole executive par- 3 golf course. There's a wide variety of restaurants, shopping, a secluded private beach, indoor pools, tennis -- and the Willow Stream Spa is to die for. This is one fabulous hill for walking, which you can easily do in several directions from the hotel.
Guest rooms command panoramic vistas of the South Shore and the Great Sound. The Fairmont Gold Floor offers exclusive 6th floor check-in plus a host of goodies well worth investigating. (Including the late-night and off-the-beaten path Cellar with live jazz and pool tables.) However the resort is children friendly, with a complimentary Explorers Kids' Camp available year-round. But there are gentle restrictions applied to keep the little ones from disturbing other guests. Depending on traffic and the enthusiasm of your driver (Bermudian cabbies like to show off their island), the hotel is approximately a 30- minute drive from the airport. Complimentary water transport is available to its sister property, the Fairmont Hamilton Princess. Given all the amenities you might just want to explore the shops in Hamilton, then repair to your luxurious paradise on the hill --and chill.
Fairmont Hamilton Princess
When the Princess Hotel opened its doors in 1885 as a genteel Victorian pile at the edge of Hamilton Harbour, it was named after Princess Louise, wife of the Governor General of Canada, who chose Bermuda as an escape from those harsh North American winters.
Countless celebrities and world leaders passed through the portals of this world famous hotel and on the second floor there is a "Rogue's Gallery" of photographs of visits by such luminaries as Marshall Tito and Prince Charles. Beneath the hotel are cavernous rooms reeking of history, as they once housed British Censors who kept a watch of all incoming mail during the war years.
Today, as the Fairmont Princess Hotel, this charming property offers many amenities, such as Cable TV, telephone, voice-mail, mini bars, chunky terrycloth robes and nightly turn down service. Continental cuisine is served in a poolside garden setting for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The intimate Heritage Court Lobby Lounge is a great spot to people watch and enjoy lunch, dinner and drinks and many of the other amenities found on property, including a shopping arcade and beauty salon. Ideally situated, the hotel is a short walk from the main streets of Hamilton, providing easy access to shopping and business activities. Early rising business travelers will enjoy the serene view across the bay and an invigorating swim in the outdoor pool.
In September 2007 the Fairmont Hamilton Princess was acquired by a private real estate investment company, Goodman Hospitality Investments, based in Seattle, Washington. The historic hotel has undergone an aggressive $20 million renovation. The guestrooms in the Bay Wing have been totally transformed into glamorous, comfortable accommodations and upgrades made to guestrooms in the Gazebo, Pool and Fairmont Gold wings. Other upgrades and refurbishments include the hotel's public spaces, the lobby, fitness centre, spa, pool and restaurants.
Grotto Bay Beach Hotel
Grotto Bay Beach Hotel is the only property where you could walk to and from the airport, depending on your amount of luggage. It is a quick trip across the Causeway and you are on a naturally landscaped, 21-acre estate of hibiscus, bougainvillea and oleander-filled gardens at the water's edge of Hamilton Parish. Having undergone a complete make-over, the welcoming lobby area is ideal for people watching before and after drinks and dinner. They offer nightly entertainment in their Rum House Lounge and Bar and a full children's summer programmed supervised by the resident social director. You will thrill at the warm reception and welcome from Mr. Caisey, the octogenarian known to guests and staff as "the Ambassador." Past retirement age, but still insists on ensuring the comfort of arriving and departing guests. Two unique attractions are the 500,000 year-old underground Prospero's Cave, used for weddings and events and Cathedral Caves, where there are guided tours and supervised swimming .
Pompano Beach Club
At the western end of Southampton Parish is Pompano Beach Club, a sort of off the beaten track kind of hotel with dramatic views of the ocean from the clubhouse and guest rooms There are many tempting amenities including a pink-sand private beach, an oceanside freshwater heated pool, wading pool and two Jacuzzis. No need to go anywhere after check-in. Available is a "Serenity" massage and body treatments salon and meals are served in the Cedar Room Restaurant, which commands panoramic views of the ocean.
